Datsun is Resurrected with the New GO Supermini!

We have been keeping a close eye on Datsun’s resurrection, curious in knowing how this new budget car will look like, and also the price tag it will bear. The wait is finally over as the new Datsun was recently revealed in flesh at New Delhi, and it is called the GO Supermini.

Being the third brand for Nissan Motor Company after Nissan and Infiniti, Datsun focuses in making low-cost vehicles. The new GO is developed and manufactured locally in India, where the first batch of this new hatchback will go on sale somewhere early next year with a price tag of below INR 400,000 (RM 21,435). The GO will also be marketed to other parts of the world which includes Indonesia, Russia and South Africa.

“This is a historic day for Nissan Motor Company and for our customers and partners in some of the world’s fastest-growing markets. It’s also an exciting moment for many women and men here in India who – today – come one step closer to realizing the dream of purchasing a car”, said Nissan Motor President and CEO, Carlos Ghosn.

Although not mentioned in their release, the Datsun GO is structurally based on the Nissan Micra, which is also built in India. Sharing the same wheelbase length of 2,450mm, the GO is 3,785mm long, 1,635mm wide and 1,485mm tall. It comes with a 1.2-liter petrol engine linked to a five-speed manual transmission powering the front wheels.
