Bugatti is releasing a set of limited edition Veyrons based on the 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse, with the new one being called the Jean-Pierre Wimille. Being the first of six “Bugatti Legends”, this special Grand Sport Vitesse honors Bugatti’s racing driver Jean-Pierre Wimille who had won the 24 Hours of Le Mans twice with the Bugatti Type 57G Tank in 1937 and 1939.
With the design inspired by the car Jean-Pierre Wimille drove, Bugatti will only produce three of such units. The car is actually identical to the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse, powered by an 8-liter W16 engine that produces 1,184-horsepower and 1,500Nm. This massive power takes it from zerotohundred in just 2.6 seconds, and the car also currently holds the record for the fastest open-top production sports car with a top speed of 408.84 km/h with the top down
The paint scheme is derived from the Type 57G Tank, combining the dark blue carbon with the contrasting light blue “Bleu Wimille” paint finish develop specifically for this model. A set of details are also included in this special edition such as the silhouette of the Circuit de La Sarthe and the driver’s signature lasered on the tank and oil caps.
The dual-color scheme continues to the inside where the headliner, footwells and seat inserts being upholstered in “Bleu Wimille”. A special decorative stitching could also be found on the steering wheel and gearshift lever, bearing the French national colors.
