The Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR has got to be one of the most insanely rare machine. With only 20 examples ever made – this road-going racer packs a lot of racing pedigree, with the racing counterpart winning the 1997 FIA GT Championship. Quickly after the launch of the coupe variant – all of the slots were taken up by car collectors everywhere and due to popular demand, Mercedes AMG specially made an addition 6 example in roadster form; just to please multi-millionaire collectors.
Over 10 years down the line – hard to believe that this chassis #0003 has suffered difficulty in finding a new home. After its return to the United States from Germany in March earlier this year, it was put up for sale on eBay for $2 million. However, the car has not been able to catch the attention of car collectors and has been left unsold since.
So the question that comes to mind – Is it not a sought after item? Or was it just purely bad timing?
Well, hopefully the answer will come by this weekend at the Mecum Auctions in Monterey, California. With just 71 genuine miles on the clock – this ultimate speed machine is definitely hard to come by. Its a call to all car-collectors in the world, this CLK GTR Roadster would be an absolutely amazing addition to your collection (if you still don’t have one of course).
This car packs 6.9-litre V12, pulling 612bhp and enough torque to pull it to 200mph with ease. Of course this example is completely road legal so you could even take it to your local grocers if you’d like. Mecum Auctions has not stated a reserve price on the CLK GTR Roadster however – from the previous eBay offer made, we reckon $2 million would be the minimum figure for this piece of automotive art.
