Why Are Amsterdam’s Thieves Targeting Porsche Headlights?

It is lucky that we have yet to have such a problem here in Malaysia, but over in Amsterdam, Porsche owners now need to keep an extra eye to their beloved ride. If this is another case of carjacking or theft, it is nothing new to be mentioned of. But these pesky thieves are not interested on the rides; they are instead targeting the car’s headlights.

And this matter is just getting worst from time to time as for only last week, 20 owners of Porsche Panameras and Cayennes had their car’s headlights poked out, but nothing else of the cars were harmed. So if some of you are wondering, “Why the headlights?” Remember, this is the Netherlands.

It seems that the sudden surge of thefts for Porsche headlights, according to the Amsterdam Police, is because the xenon lights fitted to Porsches are very suitable in being a light source to grow a certain plant that attracts tourists from all over; marijuana.

The officials said that these type of lights are very ideal in growing weed as not only they emit a strong light that is accompanied with a lot of heat, they are also very energy efficient. And that is not the only problem. Over in the States, a Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge had recently approved a class action lawsuit over the headlight’s design as they were “too easy to steal”, as demonstrated in this video. It only took the thief probably a screwdriver and a minute to get both of the headlights off the poor Cayenne.
