Shell Lubricants has released two new high performance market-leading heavy duty diesel engine oils with the Shell Rimula range — the Shell Rimula R5 LE and Shell Rimula R6 LM.
The Shell Rimula R5 LE is the first synthetic-technology heavy duty diesel engine oil to be added to the Shell Rimula range that promises a cost-effective alternative to fully synthetic lubricants and has been formulated to enhance fuel efficiency and with low SAPS (Sulphated Ash, Phosphorus, Sulphur) content.
Having been specifically designed to help operators reduce exhaust emissions, and improve their fuel economy. According to Shell, it even has the capacity to deliver fuel savings of up to 1.6% in on-the-road field trials of medium duty trucks (for highway cycles, compared to a typical 15W-40 oil).
Previously, the R5 LE had fully synthetic and mineral oils in its range, but now it’s available in SAE 10W-40 viscosity grade and Shell assures that it has met many of the most stringent global specifications such as API CJ-4, ACEA E9, and Volvo VDS-4.
As for the new Shell Rimula R6 LM is the latest fully synthetic lubricant variant in the Shell Rimula range, with specifications that allows it to exceed Euro 4 emission standards, and is capable of providing oil drain intervals of up to 120,000km (Dependant on engine type, service type and operating conditions).
Shell has also assured that both types of engine oils are very much capable of protecting the engine and exhaust system against wear by preventing acid and deposit build-up, thereby helping operators lower operating costs and maximise fleet usage by helping to reduce fuel consumption; equipment downtime due to excessive wear; and maintenance costs by extending oil drain intervals.

In conjunction with the introduction of the new products, Shell Rimula also announced the launch of its ‘Hardworking’ consumer campaign and first-ever Global Promotion, which features a travelling 40-tonne Shell Rimula ‘Hardworking’ Truck that will stop at three designated rest areas along the North-South Highway from late afternoon till night to offer truck drivers free snacks, drinks, toiletries, hair-cuts and a fun pool-table challenge with prizes.
The stops are on the South Bound Rest & Recreation Areas of Sungai Buloh (29 June), Ayer Keroh (30 June) and Juru (7 July). However, it’s not just limited to West Malaysians, the 40-tonne truck will also be deployed to East Malaysia as well, specifically in the Sarawakian towns of Sri Aman on 3 August and Batu Niah on 4th August; and Kundasang on 17th August and Sandakan on 18th August in Sabah.
