Malaysian Shell Advance Contest Winners Return From Valencia, Spain!

As our four intrepid Grand Prize winners of the Shell Advance ‘Key to Freedom’ contest made their way to Valencia, Spain in order to bring home their very own Ducati Monster 795 worth RM60,000 during the ‘Unlock a Ducati’ challenge.

Malaysia was represented at the event by four Grand Prize winners of the Shell Advance ‘Key to Freedom’ SMS-based contest held from 1st June till 31st August, 2012. They were Mr Ryan Lau, 25; Mr Ong Kim San, 34; Ms Lim Lay Cheng, 32 from Penang and Johorean Ms Ong Wan Eng, 47.

Alas, luck was not on their side, though Mr Ryan Lau from Sarawak did manage to win a special podium experience while Mr Ong Kim San of Johor won the unique opportunity to tour the service road at the Valencia racetrack.

During a gala dinner at the Exhibition Palace, special guests Alessandro Cicognani, Ducati MotoGP Team Project Manager, and Kar Tai Koh, Shell Advance Global Brand Manager went on stage to request that all guests were to simultaneously read a secret message enclosed with their keys – the four lucky guests discovered that they were invited on to the stage to take part in the grand finale.

Each contestant was required to place their key within the Monster’s ignition to see if it would start, but it wasn’t till after the second attempt by one one Zheng Mao Tuan from China who managed to do it – winning himself a brand new Ducati Monster 795 bike on his return to China!

Following the draw, Alessandro Cicognani commented, “Tonight is a perfect example of the very special relationship we have with Shell. We’re very proud to be part of this promotion where fans can experience our shared passion for technology in a way that has never been done before.”

Kar Tai Koh, also saw the drama unfold first hand, “The ‘Unlock a Ducati’ project has demonstrated to riders all over the world the passion and pride we feel for our Technical Partnership with Ducati and also helped us bring some of our most important customers even closer to Ducati. This has been a unique opportunity to show how the Shell Advance products available for the everyday rider are developed with the technical learnings discovered during race weekends like this.”

However, Ryan was far from disappointed, “It would have been a nice bonus. However, I had a wonderful time, especially at the Spanish MotoGP where I had the opportunity to get very close to the winners during the podium experience. I would like to thank Shell Advance for a memorable experience,” said the die-hard MotoGP fan.

Although Ms Ong Wan Eng from Johor did not win additional prizes during the gala dinner, she was delighted with the hospitality accorded to her and her fellow winners throughout the trip, saying, “Kudos to Shell Advance and the organisers for making us feel so special.”
