If you are not familiar to the world of Formula One, then you might have seen his face testing out the new Proton Preve. Yes, he is the famous Formula One legend Jean Alesi. The Frenchman basked in the fame of the high-speed motorsport back in the 1989-2001 period where his career was in its peak, racing for a number of famous names like Jordan, Prost, Tyrell, Benetton, Sauber, and even Ferrari. And after spending most of his life living on the fast lane, he finally decides to pull down the curtains on his racing career.
Although the 48-year-old Frenchman only achieved a single win in his career, which was for Ferrari back in the 1995 Canadian Grand Prix, he managed to secure a spot on the podium for 32 times and also recorded four fastest laps along the way. The Japanese Grand Prix in 2001 was his last race for Formula One before retiring, which he then moved on to the famous German Touring Car Championship or DTM and raced from 2002 to 2006.
He then continued to fill his need for speed by entering various other races like the Speedcar Series and Le Mans before joining the Indy 500 for Lotus. But after a poor show of performance from the race machine coupled with the lack of interest from Jean Alesi in finding a sponsor to keep on running, he finally made a decision to give up his racing career.
“I do not feel like hunting for sponsors”, said the Frenchman to the French sports daily L’Equipe.
