The FIA Formula E is gaining momentum in being a world-class racing event that would probably be the mould of motorsports in the future. Aside from the recent news of Formula E Holdings acquiring 42 race machines from Spark Racing Technology for the upcoming 2014 championship, another city had also expressed their interest in holding this new and unique race event; Rome.
Joining Rio de Janeiro in hosting the inaugural championship season for this all-new electric car racing series, the Italian capital is also the first European city to sign up. FEH also stated that they had received a lot of interest from cities all over to host the Formula E and they are currently in the process of narrowing down the list of venues in the coming weeks.
“We are honored to have Rome on board as the first European city to host Formula E, since Italy is renowned for its motorsports passion, expertise and technical innovation”, said Formula E holdings CEO Alejandro Agag.
FIA President Jean Todt also expressed his excitement in having Rome in the list of venues for the upcoming Formula E championship to take place. “It gives me great pleasure to be in Rome for this exciting announcement that the eternal city has expressed its firm interest to host a race.”
“The contrast between this innovative motorsports series and the rich ancient history of Rome is one I’m sure the public and the media will be intrigued and enriched by”, he added.
Rio de Janeiro and Rome are just a part of the ten venues that the inner-city street circuits of Formula E will be held later on, which means another eight cities will soon join in the lineup in hosting this electrifying race event.
