The Automated Enforcement System (AES) made its debut today at the Speed City Mines race track where a demonstration took place to showcase the capabilities of two systems that has been scheduled for implementation in August 2012 in Malaysia by Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ).
The system is due to come online during this year’s Hari Raya festivities with about 1,000 cameras covering the Nation’s major highways, trunk roads and intersections with their 11 mega pixel cameras and radar detection equipment at all times and during all weather conditions. Of the 1,000 cameras to be deployed for duty, about 20% of these units will be installed at intersections in order to monitor and ensure that traffic rules and lights are obeyed.
Both systems have been certified by SIRIM and both local companies are actually funding their respective systems privately without any financial assistance from the Malaysian Government.
One of the companies, Beta Tegap Sdn Bhd, has been charged with covering 7 states in all (both central and southern regions) of Malaysia with their Redflex Traffic Systems that’s internationally implemented and well-known. This system is capable of capturing both red light and speeding violations, covering up to 6 lanes of traffic, able to distinguish between approaching and receding traffic as well as the vehicles length and class. Upon detecting a single or even multiple violations at any given moment, the Redflex Traffic Systems actually possesses a video camera for secondary speed verification purposes. A powerful flash of white light or invisible infrared illumination has been specifically designed to illuminate your number plate.
The second system basically has similar abilities, except it’s being encased within a very streamlined and seemingly robust casing, being implemented by ATES Sdn Bhd which has partnered up with ‘zee’ Germans and their JENOPTIK Robot GmbH system. Their ‘robot’ system is being touted as the one that’s being most widely deployed internationally, seeing action in 80 countries world-wide, and has been charged with managing their system in the northern region as well as in East Malaysia.
Both systems seem to be extremely accurate with the ability of capturing both the driver’s face as well as the registration number, whilst indicating the recorded speed of the vehicle with their sophisticated radar devices. As 5 cars attempted to shoot past the devices at roughly 100kmh – including 1 motorcycle, the results were nothing short of clear as the pictures and respective data emerged.
However, in terms of manning these systems, the respective personnel from both local companies will always be accompanied by JPJ personnel when utilising the mobile-variants of these devices.
Apparently, both systems will need to undergo re-calibration after every 8 months to ensure that everything is working like clock-work as it transmits real-time data for verification and subsequently mailing them out with all the necessary information (including your traffic violation) to your current address.
As usual, there’s no disclosure as to any specific whereabouts, except the vague hints of the usual ‘black spots’ for traffic and speed violations to have the greatest of occurrences.

Got to realised that catching robbers and snatch thieves does not give our G or the Black&White uniform people the extra income…only speed traps can earn fast cash!
If it will just be on a tripod, then easy to steal |

Switchplate, ala Johnny English/Transporter style.
———- Post added at 10:11 AM ———- 6 hour anti-bump limit – Previous post was at 10:00 AM ———- I’d appreciate it more if they implement the similar ERP system that they’re having in Singapore to control the traffic jam, instead of trying to nab speeders/traffic light violators.Oh wait, it’ll be in line with the implementation of the new RM 2,000 fine for traffic offences! Why haven’t I thought of that? 😀 |

advanced tech like the advanced country, yet implemented on 3rd world country like street… better remain all the holes on da street, sure ppl will slow down, cost effective what… If you are serious about pursuing a career in sport photography then you have to make sure that your camera has all of the features that you need.

Re: Automated Enforcement System (AES) – Covering Our Roads Very Soon!
This is evil. Clearly, their intention is to make more money. The companies will get money from government contracts to supply and operate the camera, not to mention the money from all the summons collected. If they’re really sincere, they should put up signs to warn drivers of speed traps ahead and place the camera in clear view so that we can slow down.

Exactly. It’s supposed to be a preventive measure rather than punishment. I thought AES is supposed to be fixed at certain locations like you see on highways in the UK. They are placed at accident-prone areas and cars will slow down to prevent accidents. However, I’m confused. It says “Automated” but they also mentioned about manning the unit with JPJ personnel present? Do they do it remotely? If they do, I do hope big-@ss signs are placed for us to slow down and avoid accidents, and avoid kena saman of course! |

Re: Automated Enforcement System (AES) – Covering Our Roads Very Soon!
Might as well use their brains to come up with something where it can warn drivers/bikers about the danger ahead such as pot holes. Build in car function. Pot holes detector
Still, the person who created this, must be someone who don’t/can’t drive. If not, he wouldn’t come up with some stupid cameras like this to ruin the fun of driving. Everything being controlled…sucks. |

Re: Automated Enforcement System (AES) – Covering Our Roads Very Soon!
The little joy that left for the innocent people finally is going to be taken away. If this ever happen, it will be one of the darkest spot in the history. The main impact is not on the wallet nor the time, but the accumulation of the negative emotions, including depression, tuu kaw lan, hopeless, helpless, no freedom and etc, will roll like a snow ball, and when it hit, it can be happened in the form of road bullying, family violence, street battling, missed use of drug, excessively increment of alcohol consumption, various types of psychological sickness, rape, murder, suicide, promiscuity and thousands more types of problems. When the man in charge impressed by these high tech gadgets and the economy benefit, I guess the potential social sickness will be put aside and being ignored. Just like our school examination system, only use the results as a benchmark for the key performance index, no one will give a shit for the mental development. This is a joke for the thousands years old humanities development. Japan should keep their max 180km/h and max 280hp limitation to their cars and Malaysia probably need to set a strict local/import car speed and hp to 110km/h and 130hp respectively. But who knows some smart ass already suggest that put a limiter device to restrict cars for being drive above 2.5k rpm which is easier to achieved. I heard some vaccine for AIDS already came out. But too bad that there is still no cure for stupidities. I can’t think of any word to describe those people except cuntman.

Crime rate is increasing everyday, yet this is their main concern. Very good! There are many more causes of accidents like poorly lit area, negligence, poorly maintained roads and driving at late night or very early in the morning..

Re: Automated Enforcement System (AES) – Covering Our Roads Very Soon!
How can this AES this can reduce accidents? Gov better spend money to build wider and better road. Every years automotive sales increasing.
With this increasing cars on the road, with same old narrow and uneven road accident cant be avoid. Especially during festive season. If we calculate accidents by number, logically it will increasing every year. But if we calculate accidents by percentage of cars on the road, I this it will be decreasing. |

Re: Automated Enforcement System (AES) – Covering Our Roads Very Soon!
Good side from this what we able to learn is less and less car is speeding on federal and highways … we as a public need to follow speed limit… or else going to broke as more and more speed ticket we receive.
beside waste so much money do this do that why not built a better road that got standard rather then patch here and there. Small country like us in KL city worse part is alot highway not to forget toll charge to make traffic better but it cause traffic getting from bad to worse… i think this is happen in KL only… we should learn to have light foot as 12 august is coming soon they going to catch us …. After 55 year of independent we still a develop country right… must be joking let see where we are singapore have nothing no resource and yet they are better then us…. |

They should spend more money on installing more CCTVs in shopping malls rather than on the road…>_<

Re: Automated Enforcement System (AES) – Covering Our Roads Very Soon!
Got to realised that catching robbers and snatch thieves does not give our G or the Black&White uniform people the extra income…only speed traps can earn fast cash!
If it will just be on a tripod, then easy to steal |

Re: Automated Enforcement System (AES) – Covering Our Roads Very Soon!
