The 2014 GT-R Blitzed Through the ‘Ring in just 7:18!

The men down at Nissan are never satisfied with the performance that the GT-R churns out. They know for sure that for every milestone they had achieved a better one could be made if they put more effort in it. As a result, the GT-R again shows how dedicated and crazy the Nissan automotive engineers are with the 2014 model.

When launched, the twin-turbo 3.8-liter VR38DETT V6 engine in the GT-R originally has 480-horsepower to gallop with, and that had already sent shockwaves into the automotive world. Nissan then amplified the shockwave with the 2011 model which still has the same engine, but with a more powerful output of 545-horsepower. It was with such power that the GT-R managed to lap the Nurburgring with an impressive 7:24.22, faster than the Ferrari Enzo or the Pagani Zonda F Clubsport.

Even with such a record, Nissan just would not call it a day and continue improving the GT-R until they end up with the all new 2014 GT-R. Of course, the first thing that one will look for is the power gain of this revised GT-R, which it had surprisingly received none in the horsepower department. So on which part did this new monster got tweaked to terrorize the supercar scene again?

For starters, the modifications done were very subtle and most of them were derived from the lessons gained through the stock car that entered this year’s 24 Hours of Nurburgring Endurance Race. The car’s roll center was lowered through the tuning of the front suspension, increasing high speed stability. Like stated earlier, the power output remains the same but the engine was tweaked to give a greater response between 4,000rpm – 6,000rpm, and the 0-100 time was slashed by 0.1 seconds, giving it a 2.7-second century sprint.

So with these subtle touches, could the 2014 GT-R be a lot faster than the previous version around the daunting German test track? Subtle it may be, but truly effective it was. Nissan claimed that this new version lapped the Nurburgring at 7:18.6; 20 seconds faster than the original 2007 version! They also said that the technical details and sales dates for all regions will be released in the coming weeks.

the'll beat it for sure . there's still about 3 more generation of GTR before they replace it with R36

but then...how much does a LFA cost, comparing it with a R35?

How about show the lap if it really did it? Every other car maker posted video laps of their official run, why didn't the GTR? There is video of the GTR's 7:24. but not the 7:18? Sorry, claims are not good enough.
Prove it. It's not official unless a dyno sheet of the car was turned in, and there is a video in car of the lap. So, the GTR didn't do anything. Nissan claimed it did.
I didn't believe the Viper ACR's 7:12 either until they proved it with the dyno of the car and video of the lap. That's proof, not claims. Claimed times = nothing.
