Shell Advance ‘Battle of the Bands’ and ‘Key to Freedom’ Contest Finale at Hard Rock Cafe KL!

Concorde Hotel’s Hard Rock Café in Kuala Lumpur last Saturday night was the venue in which both the Shell Advance ‘Battle of the Bands’ and the SMS-based ‘Key to Freedom’ contest took place.

The Shell Advance ‘Key to Freedom’ SMS-based contest was held from 1st June – till 31st August, 2012 and the contest was opened to customers who purchased a 1-litre pack of Shell Advance Ultra 4T, AX7 4T, AX5 4T, VSX 2T or SX 2T motorcycle oil.

Come November, the four – Mr Ryan Lau from Sarawak, Ms Lim Lay Cheng from Penang and Johoreans Mr Ong Kim San and Ms Ong Wan Eng – will be in Valencia, Spain, to watch the Spanish MotoGP.

During the all-expense paid trip, they will also have the opportunity to win a Ducati Monster superbike worth RM60,000.

They received their prizes from Shell Lubricants Brand & Communications Manager, Yu Li Ching, at a simple ceremony at the Shell Advance ‘Battle of the Bands’ Finale at Hard Rock Café, Kuala Lumpur.

The Shell Advance ‘Battle of the Bands’ contest was the second activity that ran concurrently with the Shell Advance ‘Key to Freedom’ contest, where 10 up-and-coming local bands that garnered the highest number of online votes among the 20 selected by Shell Malaysia on YouTube battled it out on stage at Hard Rock Café.

The Jespers, a six-man strong band from Kuala Lumpur rocked the crowd to take home the Grand Prize of RM8,000 cash while the Second Prize and Third Prize of RM4,000 and RM2,000 cash went to The Black & Blues from Kuala Lumpur and Maya Opera from Johor respectively.

According to Ms Yu, the Shell Advance ‘Key to Freedom’ contest, which received some 9,000 entries, was aimed at rewarding loyal Shell Advance customers.

“Many of them are wage earners who depend on their bikes for mobility and to earn a living.  The all-expense paid trip to Spain to watch their favourite MotoGP stars is a holiday they would only dream about. Hopefully, one of them will even bring back the Ducati Monster superbike!” she said.

Ms Yu also explained that this was the second consecutive year that the company had organised the Shell Advance ‘Battle of the Bands’ contest following the tremendous response to the inaugural competition last year.

“It is a fantastic platform for young local bands to showcase their talent. The theme this year is ‘Hear the Sound, Feel the Freedom’ which is in line with the Shell Advance promise of endowing your motorcycle with responsiveness that you can hear,” she added.
