No Hybrid for the New Supra, says 86 Chief Engineer Tetsuya Tada

With the revival of the 86 and their recent comeback in the LMP1 class at the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans, Toyota is giving motoring enthusiasts the ray of light that they are looking for in these dark days where more and more automotive manufacturers are seen distancing themselves in producing something that could be called anywhere near as “sporty”.

And to add up more excitement of what Toyota has in store for the near future, a recent interview by TopGear with the chief engineer of the Toyota 86, Tetsuya Tada, had just added more information for the rumored upcoming Supra that it will not be joining the current hybrid bandwagon seen in an increasing number of cars these days.

With promising words describing his “next sports car” like “wanting to give the world a shock”, the chief engineer thinks that the “current hybrid technology is not good for road sports cars”. Tada had also given a hopeful answer when asked directly about a new Supra saying that “anything is possible”.

The Toyota 86 had shown the enthusiasts that Toyota still has what it takes to make a sports car embedded with the vital essences, but there is still an opening for something more larger and powerful sports car than the 86. And if they could do it on the 86, it is no doubt that they could capture the magic of the mighty Supra that once roamed both the streets and the tracks.
