LAUNCH: All-New Honda Jazz Hybrid (RM94,800 OTR)

Honda Malaysia Sdn Bhd has just launched the all new Honda Jazz Hybrid that gets some aesthetic improvements as well as the Honda Insight’s 1.3L i-VTEC + IMA hybrid engine and drive train.

Honda claims that the all-new Jazz Hybrid is now better than ever with its 1.3L i-VTEC + IMA and says that the start/stop function on it has also received a slight tweak to make it smoother on start-ups when the engine disengages at a red light.

Up front the Jazz gets a well deserved upgrade to the front grill which resembles the Insight’s as well as a slightly more flared arches all around to give it a little more sportier and up-dated look. However, the front headlights retain the use of halogens, save the rear tail lights and high-mounted stoplight which now employs the use of LEDs.

What makes it even more impressive in terms of aesthetics is the fact that it will also come with a rear tailgate spoiler (optional), illuminated side step garnish and alloy pedals (optional).

Michelin XM1 175/65  tyres now wrap all four 7-spoke 15″ alloys that hides away the disc brakes all around and attempts to fill out the wheel cavities arguably well.

The 1.3L i-VTEC +IMA hybrid engine pumps out a combined output of 102bhp (88bhp Engine + 14bhp Electric) with a combined Torque figure of 199Nm (121Nm Engine + 78Nm Electric). All that gets mated to a CVT gearbox that will allow itself to be manipulated via paddle shifters at the electronic power assist steering wheel, which also has audio controls integrated into it.

In terms of fuel consumption, the Jazz Hybrid’s fuel tank will take on a total of 40 litres of petrol and Honda claims that you’d be able to obtain a yield of 21.3km/L , while pollution is rated at EURO3 standards with CO2 emissions at 102gm/km. The fuel tank has been relocated to the centre of the undercarriage rather than the usual spot (under the rear passenger seat). This is because the Intelligent Power Unit (IPU) has been relocated there!

In terms of boot space, the rear seats are able to either fold down fully, which means your usual 300 litres of boot space gets a increase to 846 litres! Interestingly enough, the rear seats are able to be folded upwards to the back rest in order to accommodate taller objects.

There are upper and lower glove box compartments located on the passenger side and if you ever need to keep something cool, you can always place into the top compartment.

The dashboard of the Jazz also gets updated that breathes a breath of fresh air in terms of colour and illumination. With regards to safety and security features, the Honda Jazz hybrid gets dual SRS airbags, side and curtain airbags (that’s 6 airbags in total), Vehicle Stability Assist, ABS, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, Brake Assist, Hill Start Assist and G-Force Control Technology (G-CON); all as standard.

With service intervals and warranty, what was surprising was the service interval for the new Jazz, which we had hoped for higher figures but instead, it remains at the usual 5,000km service interval or every 3 months or whichever comes first. However, the IMA battery gets only 5 years warranty or 140,000km or whichever comes first.

Colour choices for the All-New Honda Jazz Hybrid is available in Fresh Lime Metallic, Alabaster Silver Metallic, Milano Red, Crystal Black Pearl and Taffetta White.
