It is now that time of the year and this time, the guys from EVO had come out with a video that petrolheads should never miss. After the MotorTrend’s World’s Greatest Drag Race that featured a lineup of both pure and force-fed horsepower machines screaming down the dragstrip, it is now time for a more technical showdown through EVO’s 2012 Car of The Year: The Track Battles.
Actually this video is not the full length version of the test, but a 15-minute teaser is not that short to not being able to enjoy at all. Taking place at the UK’s 2.4km Blyton Park track, the responsibility to test (or from the looks of it, trash) the shortlisted cars falls down to Richard Meaden and one of the famous faces in Britain’s auto scene, Tiff Needell.
Of course, they need the hands of a trusted professional that could handle the cars properly and judge them of what it is worth because the lineup is not any ordinary machine. They will be driving them in a tandem style, almost like an Initial D or D1 battle, but it is not entirely about smokes and style but on other criteria like the handling and lap times instead.
Going down on the track was the Lotus Exige S vs. Porsche Boxster S, Morgan Three-Wheeler vs. Toyota GT86, BMW M135i vs. Porsche 911, and the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series vs. Alpina B3 GT3. And for the grand finale, they had put on a spectacular show by pitting the new Pagani Huayra against the McLaren MP4-12C.
Who will actually come on top? Could the Morgan possibly have a better handling than the GT86, or the 911 losing to the M135i? Or the big question on who is a faster and better track machine, the exotic Huayra or the technically and specifically developed MP4-12C?
