BMW C 600 Sport and C 650 GT Maxi Scooters Unveiled by BMW Group Malaysia!

BMW Group Malaysia has now officially entered into the Malaysian Maxi scooter market with two new contenders dubbed the BMW C 600 Sport and C 650 GT by BMW Motorrad and built at the Motorrad plant in Berlin. Both scooters now take aim at attracting those who love the BMW badge as well as those who enjoy a love affair on two-wheels during the weekend.

Both of these new scooters are now BMW’s latest offerings for the scooter industry, with the C 600 Sport stressing on sport appeal with dynamic riding properties, sparse looks in comparison to the C 650 GT, an emphasis on lightness and streamlined aerodynamics.

The C 650 GT, however, has been designed to help shield their riders from the elements, while its lush cushions helps to make long-haul journeys a rather comfortable one, making this the ideal touring scooter.

Both scooters feature a 647cc, 2-cylinder in-line motor with an output of 60bhp at 6,500rpm and 66Nm of torque at 6,000rpm that’s mated to a CVT gearbox, which has an integrated driveshaft leading to the rear wheel for power delivery.

That means power delivery should be smooth and uninterrupted for a sprint time to 100kmh in just 7.1s for the Sport and 7.5s for the GT sine the Sport comes in with a wet weight of 240kg and the GT at 260kg.

BMW Motorrad boasts that both their scooters demonstrate exceptionally low sound and vibration characteristics due to their large 90 degree crank pin offset, 270 degree ignition spacing and a pair of balancer shifters driven by spur gears.

Both scooters also possess a rather low centre of gravity (CG), noticeable once you’re seated with kick-stand in its up-ward position and leaning the scooter from left to right – you’ll find it rather easy to do so.

The Sport and GT’s low CG can be attributed to the low position of the motor with a cylinder bank that’s been inclined to the front by 70 degrees. What’s more, their motor seem to possess exceptional efficiency ratings according to BMW, boasting that their 2-cylinder in-line motor emits 0.01 grams per km with an average fuel consumption of 4.8L/km at speeds around 100kmh. That should give you a range of anywhere from 260km to 330km from its 16L fuel tank.

The Sport and GT are able to provide under-seat storage, sort of a boot if you like, and is very much able to fit a small week-end-for-two duffle bag or better yet, both your helmets or just 60L of whatever it may be you need to have stored under there.

Although, the Sport may not seem able to do this, rest assured it is capable of providing storage capacity that allows for two full-face helmets to fit under the seat hat’s been lined with high-strength Kevlar-based elastic material; thanks to its expansion lever located on the inside-left section of the tail which allows a small section at the end of it to drop, thereby expanding the storage volume.  Optional accessories such as luggage rack and top case can also be had.

Unlike most scooters, the fuel flap for the Sport and GT is actually located at the front end of the seat, rather than usually found under it and is only accessible via your key after first inserting it into the key hole, push it in further and turn right to unlock the fuel flap or turn it left to unlatch the seat.

Two storage compartments can be had on both the Sport and GT, just on the left and right of the instrument cluster, where the left stores in a horizontal position and the right provides for vertical storage.

The large analogue speedometer LCD combi-display for both scooters now present more functions than others in its class, showcasing integrated engine speed readouts on the LCD, fuel levels, oil levels, distance travelled, date and time, average fuel consumption, external temperatures as well as service information for the scooter itself.

Two-rotor disc brakes are found up front while the rear sports a single disc brake with BMW Motorrad ABS fitted as standard for both maxi scooters, along with daylight running lights for enhanced visibility in road traffic.

The C 600 Sport can be had in your choice of three colour schemes of Cosmic Blue Metallic Matt, Titanium Silver Metallic and Sapphire Black Metallic. However, the C 650 GT can be found wearing Sapphire Black Metallic, Platinum Bronze Metallic or Vermillion Red Metallic.

Price tag label for the C 600 Sport comes in at RM65,000 and the C 650 GT at RM68,800.
