LAUNCH: Chevrolet Orlando (RM118,888 OTR)

After having previewed the Chevrolet Orlando recently last month, it’s finally reached our shores; hailing from Korea’s manufacturing plant for Chevrolet vehicles, the Orlando has been priced rather attractively at RM118,888 OTR withouth insurance.

The 7-seater Orlando has been based on GM’s (General Motor) global delta platform that possesses a crossover styling which will undoubtedly add to its appeal, along with its low roofline, tapered rear-end, a rugged looking set of wheel arches and its pretty impressive ride and handling thrown into the mix.

Beneath the hood lies a 1.8L 4-banger capable of achieving 141bhp at 6,200rpm and 176Nm of torque at 3,800rpm, which is handled by a 6-speed auto tranny with tiptronic functionality, sending it to the front wheels to get you up to 100kmh in just under 12 seconds while riding on a set of 17″ rims, wrapped by 225/50 rubbers – quite alright for something that has a kerb weight of 1,528kg. Intra-urban fuel economy has been rated at 7.9L/100km by GM engineers.

With versatility in mind, the Orlando is able to fold down all its seats entirely, much like a flat-bed, ready to accept rather bulky payloads – effectively the Orlando’s rear boot capacity becomes a cavernous 1,499L worth of space.

Within the cabin, there’s ISOFIX points located on the second row of seats, along with two steel anchors between the rear seat’s back and cushion and a further top tether fitted to the seat back to help ease the installation of child seat.

As for in-car entertainment, the Orlando’s headunit has an Auxiliary jack and a USB port to allow the attachment of your pen-drive, iPod / iPhone and is capable of playing your favourite MP3 tunes – volume and selections controls can be found on the leather wrapped steering wheel.

The Orlando has been certified with a 5-star EuroNCAP crash-performance rating thanks to the predominant use of high-tensile steel and has been equipped with dual-SRS airbags in the front. As standard, the Orlando’s list of passive safety features come in the form of ABS, EBD, ESP and Traction control.

For a price tag of RM118,888 (OTR without Insurance), you get to choose 6 colours to drape your Orlando with, namely:
– Switchblade Silver,
– Gun Smoke Grey
– Satin Steel Grey
– Carbon Flash Black
– Deep Espresso Brown
– Summit White

The new Chevrolet Orlando comes with a 5-year warranty or 200,000km (whichever comes first) and requires a 15,000km oil change interval – only with GM Tech Dexos Oil found at any Chevrolet authorised service centre.
