Audi has managed to throw down the gauntlet for all electric vehicles which aspire to be sporty by setting a time stamp of 8min 9s on the Nurburgring with their Audi R8 E-Tron.
Macus Winkelhock managed to navigate through the Nurburgring stealthily (literally) with an unfamiliar lack of engine noise that usually wails through the ‘Green Hell’ on most occasions, but this time around, it was just simply the whirring of the 375bhp electric engines that were probably drowned out by wind and tyre noise.
Although the E-Tron was 5s slower than its petrol-powered R8 brethren equipped with a V8, it goes to show that electric powered vehicles are on the advent of becoming not just eco-friendly (subjective), but sporty too.
Audi also says that the car will be unveiled later this year and will have its speed limited to about 200kmh with a range of about 220km.
