A Taste of the MP4-12C Spider from McLaren’s Official Film

McLaren has always put Ferrari locked into their crosshair at all times; let it be on the circuit or even on the roads. So when Ferrari came out with the sexy and seductive 458 Italia, it took no time for McLaren to come out with a counterattack with their own scientifically-proven, Italia-eater MP4-12C. It has more power, handles better and almost tops the Top Gear leader board, losing only to the V8-bearing lightweight Ariel Atom.

So when Ferrari puts out the topless version of the Italia onto the roads, one would not have to guess what McLaren will do to their latest twin-turbo supercar. This is the latest of the MP4-12C variant, the Spider; which is technically just the same as the coupe, with the plus point of being able to enjoy the wind going through your hair at 315km/h.

And unlike some roadsters that needed to be in a static position to go from a coupe to a roadster; in which the MP4-12C Spider only takes 17 seconds, it could do so on the move at speeds under 30km/h. Although the Spider gained 68 kilograms from the coupe, surely the twin-turbo V8 with 616hp could manage that small change of weight. Accompanying the emergence of the Spider is a new color for it called Volcano Red, but it will also be available in Volcano Yellow.

With prices starting at $265,750 (RM847,210), the Spider’s first deliveries are expected to take place at the end of 2012. But the 458 Spider only costs $257,000 (RM819,278), and it is undeniably something that make one fall in love at every glance of it. So if it is up to you, which one is the best; the alluring 458 or the precision-guided MP4-12C?
