Now Racing: The Lotus Supercup Asia – GT4 Series

The latest race series to partake in the GT Asia series, the Lotus Supercup Asia will also be entering the Malaysian Super Series (MSS) this year in October and November 2011, giving the national championship for circuit racing a timely lift in injecting a sense of excitement in the Malaysia motorsports scene.

“There is only one objective of the Supercup series. To determine the leading Exige racer and Team in Asia. All customers who purchase a Lotus Supercup Asia – AM-01 GT4 series race car are eligible to enter the cup series,” says chief organizer Zen Low of Aylezo Motorsports.

Promoted by Aylezo Motorsports, the Lotus Supercup Asia – GT4 series as reflected by the name will be a one-make competition series for the owners of the Lotus Supercup Asia series.

Aylezo Motorsports CEO Zen Low

A former national Jet-skier and a regular at the 12-hour Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race (MMER), Zen said that the introduction of the new series was merely to provide avenues for the owners to enjoy competitive racing.

“Basically, the series aims at providing the opportunity to individuals the adrenaline in their daily life. It is to instill more discipline amongst the car owners, to enhance safe driving, not only on the track but also on the road. It would also provide a personal challenge for Aylezo to develop a GT4 race car,” he said.

Homologated, yet Road Legal.

The Cup series in 2011 comprises of total 8 rounds, giving the competitors four highly competitive rounds at the GT Asia – during the Asian Festival of Speed (AFOS) event and as well as four competitive rounds at the GT class- MSS event. Declaring that he had set a modest target for the first year, Zen said: The mission for 2011 is to get all 10 of our AM-01 GT4 cars racing competitively and successfully, so that we can increase to more number of cars in the following year.

“Hopefully, it would instill greater interest in the future and induce more drivers and more cars. The more cars, the more interesting racing gets,” he said, adding that at present, the Lotus owners had only one MMER to look forward to for competitive racing.

Zen said that the competition would be good for the Lotus owners in putting their knowledge to practical training. “Lotus does provide drivers training and programmes on car handling, track days and support to the competition at the MMER.”

“Aylezo provide advance and intensive training for those who wanted to become a racing driver and how to handle a pure race Lotus on the race track,” said Zen, who hope that the new series would not only encourage young and upcoming potential individuals to become a racing drivers, but also as race engineers, mechanics and the racing crew in the future.

“Motorsport is a huge field and Malaysians can become professionals in their own field of expertise within this massive industry and MME had proven and has provided to the progress of Malaysian motorsports. We have more than just the birth of new drivers,” Zen added.
