Launched at the 2008 Paris Motor Show, the Renault Laguna Coupe has finally made it to our shores thanks to none other than TC Euro Cars – the official importer of everything Renault in Malaysia.
Arguably one of the most gorgeous Renault’s to ever grace Malaysian roads, the Laguna Coupe’s flowing lines and overall design screams Aston Martin at first glance. But take in the sheer size difference of the car and the side profile and it immediately becomes clear that the Laguna Coupe is no Aston but is a beauty in its own right.
Inside, plush leather greets you and plenty of space makes it a really comfortable place to be in. The steering and controls have a sturdy feel to it and complementing the gorgeous lines of the exterior is the equally gorgeous lines of the dashboard. Being a coupe, it is natural to expect very little space for the rear passengers but that’s not so. With the front seats in place, a 6-footer could still make himself comfortable in the rear but unless you’re ferrying children, there’s only space for 4.
Making your drive all the better is the Bose sound system. According to the brochure, the engineers at Bose and Renault collaborated to develop a customized sound system that is perfectly adapted to the acoustics of the car. Now 10 speakers based on powerful Bose Component Speakers soothe your ears with your favourite music and will easily announce to other road users what you’re listening to thanks to a digital amplifier with 6 equalizer channels.
There’s no doubt the interior is a great place to be but with no power, there’s only so much of a comfortable interior that a driver can take before he longs for more power. Filling that need is a 4-cylinder, 16-valve, 2-liter twin-scroll turbocharged processor that puts out 170hp@5000rpm and a impressive 270Nm of torque available from a low 3250rpm. The engine has to haul a body that weighs in at 1,480kg and this results in a 9.2 second century sprint and a top speed of 220km/h.
