Goodyear wins Reader’s Digest Trusted Brand Gold Award for second year running

Goodyear, the leading tire manufacturer, was recently named the Most Trusted brand for the tire category in Malaysia by Reader’s Digest for the second consecutive year that this survey is being conducted for this category.

The Reader’s Digest Trusted Brands is touted as being one of the most objective branding surveys in the region. Now in its 12th year in Asia, the survey determines the brands most trusted by consumers across 43 different product and service categories.

Goodyear Malaysia has established its solid presence as being the market leader for the passenger car segment, both in the replacement and original equipment markets.

“We are pleased that Goodyear was the recipient of the award for the second consecutive year – a definitive achievement for us. It is also testament that our brand has been well-received and trusted by Malaysian consumers throughout these years,” said Nasution Abdul Rahman, Managing Director, Goodyear Malaysia.

“We strongly believe that this trust has been cultivated through our efforts of educating the public about road safety, as well as our continuous innovation to ensure that we produce quality tires to meet a wide range of needs. Honors such as this, and the complementing strong consumer demand for our tires, confirm we are headed in the right direction,” he added.

Shortlisted brands were chosen based on surveys undertaken through questionnaires as well as telephone interviews of randomly selected, upscale consumers. All research work was conducted for Reader’s Digest by Synovate, a global market research company. The surveyed brands were ranked based on six qualitative criteria: trustworthiness and credibility, quality, value, understanding of customer needs, innovation and social responsibility. Customers ranked the brands based on these qualitative attributes, in addition to brand preference to determine the winners of each product category.

“The true benchmark of success for a brand is the extent to which it wins and holds the trust of consumers, regardless of economic conditions,” said Gwen Loong, Group Advertising Director for Reader’s Digest Asia. “Winning a Reader’s Digest Trusted Brand Award is the ultimate seal of consumer approval.” She added that the results are thoroughly objective as they are based entirely on consumer votes.

In addition to being the trusted brand among consumers, Goodyear is also the trusted brand among car manufacturers being the preferred OEM brand. Goodyear is the market leader in the OE segment and supplies to the majority of the car manufacturers and assemblers in Malaysia, such as, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai, Proton, Perodua and Naza, amongst others.

At the recent Proton Vendor Association’s 16th Annual Dinner, Goodyear received awards for being the “Best Overall Vendor for 2008 – 2009” as well as the “Best Quality Award” for the non-SMI (small and medium industries) category. In the past, Goodyear has also attained other wards from Proton as well, such as the “Best Supplier Award” in 2004, and the “Best Quality Award” for the non-SMI category in 2007, as well as the “Runner up on Quality” award, also for the non-SMI category in 2008.
