Fairuz Fauzy To Miss Out on Final Test in Barcelona To Make Way for Heikki and Jarno

Lotus has reportedly amended its testing schedule in order to give race drivers Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen more time at the wheel of the new T127 car.

After test driver Fairuz Fauzy gave the single seater its proper test debut at Jerez last week, it was believed the Malaysian would return to the car at Barcelona.

But as the 27-year-old achieved enough mileage to qualify for his FIA super license, Finland’s Turun Sanomat said Fauzy has been sidelined for this week’s final test of the winter.

The newspaper said technical boss Mike Gascoyne has instead pencilled in Trulli for the first two days at the Circuit de Catalunya, and Kovalainen for Saturday and Sunday.

I thought Fairuz proved his ability to handle an F1 car.wait longer see how it goes..

Really, for Fairuz there was really nothing more for him to prove with regards to "ability to handle an F1 car". He certainly can handle one. Everyone in the sport knows that. He has been racing single seaters every single year for over 10 years. He is very well experienced in single seaters, outside of F1.

Fairuz can certainly drive in F1 and can certainly 'keep up with the pack'. However for him to 'excel' in his driving in F1 is the question mark and the team it seems is not ready to take the risk. It is also a risk to Fairuz in terms of PR especially in Malaysia. Not an issue for the european racing community because they understand the sport and know how to valuate Fairuz. They know the calibre of Fairuz.

Fairuz is basically at the point where he needs a break(opportunity) to go forward, to prove that he belongs in the current F1 driver club. Unfortunately it doesn't look like the break will come through Lotus Racing.

You can't blame Lotus Racing either. They need good experienced F1 drivers to help progress the team and so it's the right decision for them to give as much test time to their main drivers. They can't afford to be 'charitable' yet.

Fairuz is a good driver. Hope he does not 'end up' like Alex Yoong.
