Blast From The Past: 3-liter V12 Ferrari 250 GTO Laps Silverstone

The holiday season has resulted in some serious slow-down of international news, sure there is some but nothing interesting or juicy to get people really excited. So now I have to look harder, further and wider but I came across some pretty interesting things. You may have noticed an increase in video posts but that’s just cause it’s more interesting than some of the news trickling out of world wide news agencies.

Take this post for example, it’s of the classic Ferrari 250 GTO lapping Silverstone and it is just amazing. The 3-liter V12 engine makes a sound that no other modern V12 engine is capable of replicating, in fact the entire car is so well composed that it’s hard to tell whether the machine is modern or classic (the steering wheel and the length of the throw during gearshifts are a dead give away though).

I found the video over at Axis of Oversteer and the guys there not only dug up this great video of the 250 GTO but also included an excerpt from Mark Hales and Nick Mason’s great book “Into The Red” – a must read for petrolheads. The excerpt describes the Ferrari down to it’s final detail and I’ll sum it up for you with a quote – “If ever a car looked absolutely right in all respects, then it is the Ferrari GTO.” Click here to read the rest of the excerpt.

Agree its one of the best Ferrari out there. But the best one for me is 288GTO. Simply because this car bridges what all Ferrari looks like now right after F40. Oh yeah they don't make GTO moniker for any Fezza nowdays.
