McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh has been elected as the new chairman of the Formula One Teams’ Association (FOTA).

Whitmarsh will take over the reins of FOTA from Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo, he will be assisted by the Italian team’s principal Stefano Domenicali as vice chairman. Red Bull’s Christian Horner will head the sporting regulations working group, while Ross Brawn continues in his role as chairman of the technical working group.

“All members placed on record their thanks to Luca di Montezemolo for his valuable leadership and remarkable contribution in the successful establishment of FOTA, as well as all the other key figures who contributed greatly to a successful first year,” said FOTA in a statement.

“The teams now look forward to working with Martin Whitmarsh to continue the development of activities in the long-term interest of Formula One, in collaboration with all other stakeholders.”

FOTA exists to represent the interests of the teams involved in F1. Each team is entitled to appoint one representative to the executive committee as well as to each of the different working groups.

so now FOTA is no longer that pressure bunch of groups. what happen to the breakaway plan first mooted a year or two back? utter silence.

i doubt bernie given them what they wanted. infact benie been clever – instead of giving them more money/ control/ etc etc, he simply make cost reduction. so no money handed over to the teams, but he retarded this and that for the sake of getting the cost down.

there is a very wide different between ‘giving money’ and ’saving money’.. ’saving money’ means u have to do some things in smaller size or make do with things in micro, which means u ARE PREVENTED to do things that u wanted.

‘giving money’ will enlarge capital – giving teams more freedom to produce designs as much as law of physic permits. the restriction is almost no exist.

good luck martin i must say, in starting to bargain for more with that little short man.
