Blast To The Past: 1999 French Rally Championship – Group A FWD Kit Cars
March 7, 2010
The Group A class was created to promote more private entries. In order to be homologated, 2500 examples of the competing car had to be put on sale by the manufacturer. Above is a great video of the cars that used to race in the class in the late 1990s, described by the compiler of the video as “notorious little hornets”, the fast, nimble, and lightweight kit cars, the video shows some of the best bits from the 1999 French Rally Championship. And the stars? French greats like the Citroen Xsara, Peugeot 306 Maxi and the Renault Megane. In the 1999 season, the FWD Citroen Xsara won twice in the WRC and clinched the Grand Prize in Rallye Catalunya and Tour de Corse. Enjoy your 10 mins of 1999 WRC adrenalin.
