While BMW takes its own sweet time to introduce its highly anticipated M5, German tuner Alpina has capitalised on the impatient potential owners of the M5 by introducing the B5 Biturbo – the specialist tuners answer to the M5.
Making its debut at the Goodwood Moving Motor Show, the B5 uses a tuned version of BMW’s 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8 powerplant that cranks out 500bhp and 516 lb ft of torque. Alpina claims all that power is able to propel the B5 to 100km/h in just 4.7-seconds and onto a top speed of 308km/h.
Shying after from its tradition of not using the same powerplants as BMW’s M division models, the B5 is powered by the same unit that will power the forthcoming M5. The difference however lays in the choice of transmission, the B5 uses a modified version of ZF’s eight-speed automatic gearbox, whereas the M5 could potentially be using a dual-clutch unit.
No pricing has been announced but our source says UK buyers can expect to pay around £70,000 for the car with first deliveries to begin sometime in August.
