Nelson Piquet Jr Is Effectively Unemployable by Any F1 Team

No matter the outcome of the ‘crash-gate’ scandal, Nelson Piquet’s career is over, Martin Brundle wrote in his column for The Times newspaper on Saturday.

With the race-fixing allegations and the September 21 hearing still the main topic of conversation at Monza, Brundle – the former grand prix driver and now commentator for British television – said he did not sympathise with the whistleblower.

“Piquet Jr is unemployable now,” said Brundle. “A driver who would willingly and intentionally crash his car? Unforgiveable.”

Brundle, who started about 160 grand prix until the mid 90s, said he does not sympathise with Piquet’s claim that he agreed to crash on purpose to please his paymasters and win a new contract.

“Try waiting the whole winter to sign a race-by-race contract days before the first grand prix of the season – that’s stress, but still not enough to crash a car intentionally,” said the Briton, presumably referring to his agreement to race with McLaren in 1994.

For the record, Brundle does believe that Piquet crashed on purpose.

“Talking with a group of eminent people, Niki Lauda asked, ‘Do you think it was an intentional crash?’ and I instinctively replied: ‘Yes.’ He said: ‘I agree completely’,” recalled Brundle.

Piquet should shut up and drive. Now all F1 teams would think he is not worthy of his fathers name. I think now he will be driving some 3rd rate races somewhere.

It is his father that is driving all this dirt around! Father is instigating and using all his powerful connections to 'air out his son's laundry'Piquet Sr royally pissed of at Briatore.

I think as soon as Piquet went against his former team Renault in public, I lost a lot of respect for him. Not professional. No sympathy for him even if he was 'wronged'

so, F1 must the most corrupt sport in the entire universe!

u cant report anything.

u cant tell about anything.

u cant complaint about the lack money shared or bernie will zass his axe.

u cannot tell somebody about the rotten thing in the team.

i know the reason of this outcome to be honest. it started when flavio replaced piquet Jr with the new driver. and then all hell broke lose.

even tho flavio wanted to replace him with somebody else (i dont know the reason maybe cash flow into renault the most logical of all), but the way he handled it was shabby all around. i dont expect a team principal as successfull as him to treat piquet jr just like that.

this chap brundle. has he know anything at all apart from crashing his own car and finish his career without any significant victory in the sport? i know he got back doing commentary for BBC and thats about it.

and ah, about 'effectively unemployable' comment. totally not true.

i wonder if piquet Snr set up a team next year, then get good set up for his son to challenge for title and I am sure this chap brundle will have to hide behind his own ass.

Oh senior Piquet was the bad azz behind it all eh? I thought it was otherwise. Still i can see that he would be driving some third rate races everywhere. Young and get killed by politics off the tracks. I think this is how the hew generation of drivers like to be "killed" hahaha

I was surprised that Flavio also complained of Nelson Jr's sexual preference too in the news.

Come on Mr. Brundle. Elaborate on that. You say it is unemployable because he crashed his car on purpose, or because he spilled the beans?!!!? I think the latter. Michael Schumacher crashed his car on purpose into Damon Hill's Williams in '94 Addelaide. And nobody said anything even though the whole planet knew it. Why? Because unlike Piquet, Schumi did not spilled the beans into the press, or FIA. His actions were swallowed on a "what happens on the track stays on the track" basis. You are just frustrated he spilled the beans! Well guess what! We need more Piques Jnrs to cleanse F1 and then we can talk about SPORT.

Schumi never goes against his team and is a team player through and through. He is a professional never 'airs out his team linens' regardless of problems within the team. Thats why his team members are so loyal towards him.
