A few weeks ago we reported that Lexus will be leasing and not selling it’s latest model, the LFA. But now, the latest news is reporting that only cars in North America and Canada will be offered on a lease-only basis, all 150 units that are set for delivery to NA and Canada. Meanwhile in Europe, customers will be able to buy the cars and claim ownership.
Lexus stunned the world with news of the leasing policy last week. In an effort to prevent speculative purchasing and inflated second-hand resale, the Japanese automaker was to maintain ownership of all its cars.
The company has offered no reason for its different direction on the European continent and there has been no news on what direction the company will take for its customers in Asia.
Lexus’ new 4.8-liter V10 supercar is capable of going from 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds. The LFA tops out at 325 km/h (202 mph). One of the cars is already on display at the Lexus Park Lane showroom in Mayfair, London.
Orders will be taken on the car beginning in Spring 2010. European delivery of the handcrafted Lexus LFA will take place between 2011 and 2013.
