Another marvel from power-crazy tuning house G-Power – we present the X5 G-Power Typhoon. It almost seems as if G-Power is picking up where AMG left off in it’s quest for massive horsepower figures on a car meant for luxury cruising. Even BMW itself has stepped up it’s game on power figures with the latest X5M which churns out 555hp.
Only this past March did the German tuning firm release the first G-power Typhoon with 525hp, but since BMW introduced the X5M that boasts 30 more horses, G-Power went back to the drawing board and came up with this monstrous SUV, sorry, SAV. Not to be outdone, the X5 G-Power Typhoon now boasts a phenomenal 625hp and a max torque of 700Nm from a completely re-engineered 4.8-liter V8.
The massive figures are the result of a force-fed engine that utilises G-Power’s SK III RS supercharger with the boosting pressure at 1.0-bar. At the very core of the supercharger is the ASA supercharger system which is also used in the Alpina B5S, B6S and B7 models, as well as the B6 GT3 racer.
The supercharger system helps the X5 go from 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds, 0-200km/h in 16 seconds and on to a eventual top speed of 285km/h. Gears are selected using a 6-speed automatic transmission while BMW’s xDrive AWD system helps with grip.
To help with cooling and breathing, the supercharger kit utilises a steel high-performance exhaust system, racing catalysts and rear mufflers, as well as a large-volume aluminium charge air cooling system up front.
Inside G-POWER fitted accessories like a TYPHOON design speedometer, a sports steering wheel and aluminium bits. Customers can pretty much spec the car to their own personal desires. Each X5 G-POWER TYPHOON RS can be ordered directly or can be created from an existing customer X5 (E70).
