UMW Toyota Motor Donates Land Worth RM450,000 To Historic Mosque

PENANG – UMW Toyota Motor recently donated a land area worth about RM450,000 to Masjid Makbul in Jalan Sg Pinang, Jelutong when it handed over the land title to Majlis Agama Islam Negeri Pulau Pinang (MAINPP).

The Masjid which was build in 1850 is located next to UMW Toyota Motor 3S facilitiy at Jalan Sungai Pinang. Masjid Makbul is considered as one of the oldest Masjids in Penang and has withstood the changes and developments of the Jelutong area since it was opened more than 158 years ago. Known previously as Mesjid Tok Guru, the masjid was build by traders from Acheh who used the Sungai Pinang to transfer goods from the rural area. It has also served as the centre of Islamic and knowledge development for the Muslim community in Jelutong area.

The donation of 540 square metre of land was allocated for the Masjid two years ago as part of the company’s network upgrading by building a new facility in the Jelutong area. UMW Toyota Motor’s representative, Tn Hj Aminar Rashid Salleh, Executive Director, Strategic Marketing Group handed over the land title to Yang DiPertua MAINPP, YB Hj Shahbudin Bin Yahya at a ceremony held at Toyota’s Sales Showroom.

In his speech at the function, Hj Aminar Rashid Salleh said “As a responsible corporate citizen, it is our continuous journey to bring about a real difference to the community where we operate our business. It is part of our Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.”

“That is why in 2007, UMW Toyota Motor also donated a total of RM20,000 for the upgrading works of Masjid Makbul, in addition to the donation of the land which is located next to our Sales and Service facilities.”

Commenting on the move by UMW Toyota Motor, YB Hj Shahbudin Bin Yahya said, “On behalf of MAINPP, I would like to thank the corporate sector for their support all these years. I acknowledge the effort and contribution done by UMW Toyota Motor as part of their CSR initiatives and hope more corporate bodies will emulate what UMW Toyota Motor have done.”

At the ceremony, Hj Aminar Rashid also handed over 50 prayer mats to the Masjid’s committee chairman, Tuan Hj. Shukor Abd. Karim.

UMW Toyota Motor 3S facility was fully operational in 2007 and became one of the prime facilities in Penang. UMW Toyota Motor has three more outlets in Bayan Lepas, Kawasan Perindustrian Perai and Bandar PERDA in Butterworth. In total, together with its dealers, Toyota employs a total of 237 staff in Penang.

bro, dont look like that, that is one of the activities perform by umw toyota..u can see one`s of umw toyota branches in north of malaysia are donating for rumah sinar harapan ( non muslim ) too..so dont talk simply if u do not no nothing..
