The Perfect Drift
October 27, 2009
It’s all the rage in the drifting world, it’s being hailed as drifting history, the perfect drift and the the best drift ever. Instead of going in sideways, Japanese drifter M.Kawabata enters the corner rear first and keeps his Nissan Silvia S13 under control, officially rocking the drift world and the judges as well.

can any experts explain how that is possible?
Perfect timing and coordinating the usage of handbrake and footbrake to get the rear into an extreme angle, lots of steering angle, and good tyres so that you can get onto the throttle as early as possible to prevent the car from spinning. One word… SKILL
Holy ….. seriously, 100 points !!!
That is some SICK SHIT…awesome stuff….trust the Japs to make good cars and great drifters
awesome throttle control all i can say…
Is this what they called the J-Drift? wicked man…
GP-sport knuckle….crazy
That is a 4 wheel drift. A rather specific example of one.
Basically his front wheels have almost completely lost lateral traction (they are actually slipping sideways together with the rear but at a lower rate) and he is pivoting his car over what’s left. Control over the slide is via right foot – its the sideway momentum that’s affecting the angle in this case.
He would balance the sideways momentum by not allowing the rear to snap back too fast (causing a stall) or snap out too much (causing a spin out). By controlling the rear wheels traction and angle, he allows the front to catch up before straightening out.
This is one of the reasons the Silvia / 180SX platform is such a favourite among drifters. The long wheel base, FR layout and chassis balance really helps make such spectacular drifts.
That was more crazy then Diago Saito
wow…strong…can fight wif ken block…awesome drift…
Normal and nothing special. easy job. i have done this 5 years back.
oh..i have done it 6 years back…haha
‘nonsense’
respect man.. thats all i can say.. respect…
Nice drift…..
the judges have nice chairs.
@applejuice.. yeah! Very cool chair hope to get one to for my desktop
I think we all have seen such techniques used in movies before but we never took notice of them. We seen it in those arab drift videos, but we never took notice of them also. And we played a lot of video games that we did this once too many times, but we never took it seriously. more recent is Ken Blocks Impreza, but we never took notice of that also. Now in D1…..
This one is actually go faster than your regular entry speed, do a drift, the throttle like mad when you feel the car it at the maximum end of being oversteered. But in fact i think nothing can describe it, unless you put a G meter at the center of the car, a camera at steering and throttle to know the forces at work.
Anyway cool or not i think when you go one of one with another car, there is not more side to side action from start because it limits the second car to approach earlier. Maybe for qualifing is ok. It doesn’t look like a good sportsmanship move in battles IMHO.

Yah I agreed with netmatrix .. the arab drift, if we look again in youtube, they most brave .. and superb in handling the car til we can see it make 360′ .. unbelievable .. for it they are crazy ..but in D1 .. wow perfect drift what we give title to them..
u guys all make it sound so ez and not enuf credit is given to the drifter, come on.
