Lexus LFA Not For Sale – All 500 Supercars To Be Leased To Owners
November 24, 2009

Noticed how supercars almost always spend most of their lives parked in some carpark, collecting more dust than mileage. Then there are those limited run supercars that double in price as soon as the first owner receives the keys. We have the speculators to thank for that but now in a bid to foil these exotic car speculators, Lexus has came up with the idea of leasing its forthcoming LFA supercar – not selling it – when it hits the market.
Automotive News is reporting that Lexus will only offer two-year leases of its 552hp supercar at a fixed price which has not yet been disclosed. It is only at the end of the two year period that the leaseholders get the opportunity to actually purchase the car, at which point the title would be handed over. As Lexus’ vice president of sales and dealer development Brian Smith tells it, his company wants “people out driving the car and not just parking it in a museum or selling it at an inflated price.”
New LFA’s may be lease vehicles, but all cars will still be able to be individually tailored to the customers and built-to-order begins in December 2010.
In an effort to gear up for the arrival of the LFA, Lexus will reportedly train 15 LFA specialists that will be located at the company’s four regional outposts. It has also been reported that the Japanese automaker will also pay for dealers to receive the special tools and training that will service the vehicles.
If the leasing method works and effectively brings an end to the speculator’s market, expect other exotic car companies like Ferrari and Lamborghini to follow suit.

wutttaaaaa F ?!
wtf? if buyer want to buy then let them buy la, it’s their money, duh, what a dumb idea!
cant fully blame the speculators about the price of some supercars.
Its always to do with the supply and demand curve.
But, 500 supercars to be leased for 2 years only ? huh ? cant figure that out.
Wow…..time sharing a supercar – new concept hahahaha.
oi blackjack..u sounds like my economics lecturer laa… demand curve shift to the left lah…supply curve shift ti the right lah…kekekkeke….
anyway, this leasing idea is a brand new concept. to b frank it sounds silly to me, but so many silly things does work nowadays. just a matter a time. give them a chance…hehehe
I dunno why but Toyota / Lexus seems to love the idea of leasing. One thing for sure if the LFA is on lease and not for sale, There will be NO HKS LFA or Top Secret LFA or bla bla bla LFA… only the original LFA.
this kind of speculating problems also exist in many so called free market countries nowadays. Many houses in cities were empty but marked with high price…..and the rice price were heavily mark up because someone stock pile them and create market shortage…..
the ‘invisible hand’ in the capital market has twisted the real supply and deman mechanism now.
this idea is not new. i believe we’ve heard and seen it with the ferrari i-cant-remember-whats-the-model-but-its-black.
but for supercars i feel the idea, although i am not supporting it, a bit appropriate.
but for a LEXUS? come onnn
You mean the project FXX? The black one belongs to scheuy. The case of reventon is making a lot of people unhappy, quite a few reventon were bought by speculators and release around in market while lamborghini wasnt expect to see.
2unit come jakarta next year comfirm!
oh man i definitely hope other manufacturers dont follow suit – if you can afford it you have the right to purchase it. As it is I dont see the need for them to cap production at 500 cars – more people should have the chance to enjoy this great car!!!
wa…so babei meh..need to LEASE only..lol
hey its u!!
the “overtake” guy!
lol…
With a Ferrari it was, ” I dunno what model, but it has an XX at the back”
ferrari has adopted this concept back in more than 10 yrs ago… the F50 is going for lease instead of purchase…
whats the logic behind this so called new concept of leasing?
if lets say i’ve got few million quid to spend on a new wheels, i am pretty sure i want that car to be delivered to MY HOUSE. i want to keep hold the keys, show it to my friends, or maybe go for a drive by and enjoy it. and i want to do it on my terms, meaning whenever i want, i can just take the keys, start the car and go.
