Gordon Murray Working on Successor To Mclaren F1
September 6, 2009

Gordon Murray, creator of the Mclaren F1 once told CAR magazine, “there’s no point in trying to outdo the F1, they’ll never do it. The world has moved on…” It’s hard to imagine that the F1 will remain the ultimate, but it would be hard to argue that with the father of the Mclaren F1. But just to prove a point, Mr.Murray is willing to take another crack at creating the ultimate supercar, just to show how it’s done.
Murray is currently busy with a handful of projects that include the iStream – a technology that will revolutionize the way cars are built – and the soon-to-be-released- T25 city car. After this, the man will set his sights on the successor to the F1, a more performance oriented model, but rather than trying to outdo the Mclaren F1, he’ll be going for a high power-to-weight ratio by decreasing the latter instead of increasing the former.
The result, according to Murray, promises to be “expensive and exclusive”, and very different from the P11 – a program which Murray apparently doesn’t give much of a chance. We are looking forward to the latest Murray creation with high optimism, it’ll be nice to have a proper supercar rather than the electronic-laden gizmo’s we get these days.

Unfortunately, when Murray created that car, he was at his peak in thinking and crativity. Nowdays he seems to be hiding behind the fact, he has passed his prime. If he can’t create another winner, then somebody would and could. Its like how Michael Johnson say Usain Bolt can’t break his record because he is historically fastest. To Gordon, there will be one to break McLaren F1’s leg in the coming years. Leave the F1 as a legacy and not a tombstone of death for every car designers.
F1 is a legend itself, used F1’s price are soaring every year….a good running condition F1 will cost nearly USD$2m in the market and the price is going up.
one collector in hk spent 2-3 years to get one road going mclaren F1 and rumour said the price he paid was USD$2m.
