Goodyear Formula Drift Roars To Life in Malaysia with Inaugural Championship

After successful legs in Singapore and Thailand earlier this year, ESPN STAR Sports and Goodyear are bringing the world’s most recognisable professional drifting championship to Malaysia for the first time ever this December, with the Goodyear Formula DRIFT Malaysia. ESS will repriseits role as event organizer while Goodyear continues to build its association with racing as the event’s title sponsor.
Set to run from December 19th to 20th at the Malaysian Agro Exposition Park Serdang, the event will see over 50 drivers coming from as far as Japan, New Zealand, Philippines and Hong Kong, as well as Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, and of course, Malaysia congregate to push their rear-wheel drive cars to the limit, executing exhilarating maneuvres, whilst maintaining impeccable precision and vehicular control.
Top drivers to look out for Malaysia’s very own Tengku Djan, who won the Singapore leg of this year’s Formula DRIFT series, Mad Mike Whiddett, winner of the Thailand Formula DRIFT leg, Ariff Johanis, Ivan Lim, and even female drivers like local girl Jane Cheah. , With so much exciting talent on show, you can be sure of a scorching competition that will be sure to thrill hardcore enthusiasts and casual motorsports fans alike!
The format:
All the drivers will be showcasing their skills in the preliminary rounds on 19th December, after which the Top 32 will be selected.
On 20th December, it’s a showdown of the best of the best as more drivers are eliminated to reveal the Sweet 16, Elite 8, and Final 4.
The best 4 drift masters will then go through a Concession Round to determine the 3rd-place winner, and the grand finals will be a no-holds-barred, one-on-one drift battle to crown the first ever Malaysian Formula DRIFT Champion.
