In its second year running, the first and only automotive awards in Malaysia to recognize fuel efficient vehicles, the Asian Auto-Mudah.my Fuel Efficiency Awards 2009 announced its results at a cozy awards ceremony that took place last Friday.

Speaking at the ceremony, Asian Auto Editor, Daniel Fernandez said, “This annual fuel efficiency awards aims to motivate car manufacturers to introduce more fuel-efficient vehicles such as small capacity diesels, invest in new technologies and develop or introduce alternative fuel cars into the Malaysia market. And, the increase in participation from car manufacturers this year is a testament to the importance of meeting the demands of discerning consumers in Malaysia. The Asian Auto – Mudah.my Fuel Efficiency Awards 2009 is one of our ways to acknowledge the manufacturers who have strived to provide the most savvy automotive selections in our market.”

The title sponsor for this year’s awards is Muday.my, the nation’s biggest online marketplace. It is the nation’s online hub for buyers and sellers to meet, specializing in providing an efficient platform for buying and selling as well as advertising opportunities for consumers and advertisers including car dealers and car manufacturers.

Other notable winners of the evening were Audi, Honda and Ssangyong driving home with a few awards each while the Citroen C5 and Nissan Sylphy sprung surprises at the judges with good wins. The BMW 320i and Vios J have the same fuel consumption (6.1ltr/100km) and the BMW is better than Persona and the City. This shatters the myth that a bigger capacity car sips more fuel than small capacity car.

Why the hell Mazda5 is a luxury MPV? It should be in compact MPV segment along side Honda Stream and Toyota Wish... if they do so, Mazda won't win any award.

There should be mini MPV segment for smaller engines, if not FC for kangoo 1.5L is of course better than stream 1.8L

MINI MPV = below 1.6 L - kangoo, alza, livina, avanza
COMPACT MPV = 1.7 - 2.0 L - stream, wish, mazda5
LUXURY MPV = 2.1 L above - grandis, odyssey, estima

Asian auto used their published figures, then goes to everyone and asked for advertising money. You pay you get awarded, don't pay no award.
