The Marketplace: Snow Performance Water / Methanol Injection System

25Water/methanol injection is a widely accepted and well-known technique in improving the performance and fuel mileage of gasoline or diesel powered engines. The logic behind the technique is that water provides anti-detonation and cooling effect to the intake air charge. Upon compression, water vapour condenses into incompressible droplets, which increases the compression ratio of the engine.

After combustion, water absorbs the combustion heat and expands to form steam, termodynamically improving the power stroke efficiency. Carbon deposit on the valves and piston can also be steam-cleaned, further enhancing the engine efficiency.

Methanol, as a high-octane fuel, also enhances the cooling effect upon atomization. As a widely used and effective windscreen washing agent, methanol also provide cleaning property especially useful in removing grease, oil and carbon deposit around the throttle valve and intake tracks.

Mixing water and methanol provides a safe, effective and relatively economical solution to achieve better performance and improved fuel mileage.

While force induced engines see greater benefit from using such injection system, due to the possibility of higher boost pressure, normally aspirated engines benefit from the anti-detonation property, that allows more advanced ignition timing.

While controlling the flow rate, pump pressure, spray pattern, fluid atomization, injection timing and strategy vary from car to car, SNOW PERFORMANCE Boost Coolers come with the most comprehensive solution that enable a completely model-specific tuning from a single kit.

Available Models:

Stage I Boost Cooler
The Stage 1 Boost Cooler Kit is available for naturally aspirated or force induction applications that do not utilize a MAF/MAP sensor. Activation strategy is very simple, the system starts injecting when the vacuum/pressure switch reaches the user-adjustable point and it injects a fixed amount of fluid through the nozzle until the switch opens again. Fine tuning on flow rate can be done by selecting the suitable nozzle and adjusting the pump pressure.

Stage II MAF Boost Cooler
This kit uses the 0 to 5 Volt output signal from the Mass Air Flow sensor OR Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor on many fuel injected vehicles. This means that any vehicle with a MAF/MAP (with a 0-5V output signal) can use this kit, whether they are naturally aspirated or forced induction. If the application is forced induction, it can be used with very fast-spooling turbos, or positive displacement blowers. It is easier to set up with the positive displacement blowers with a MAF signal because it is more progressive in nature vs. the boost pressure signal on those applications. This allows for the most accurate injection possible over the widest range. The result is the most power and driveability possible.
