I’m guessing it’s safe to say that Mercedes design language is departing from the round and soft edges of yesterday’s models to the sharper, bolder and edgier design of today. Think new C-Class. It’s safe to say that because even though these images may just be renderings of how the upcoming W212 E-Class could look like, there have been plenty of spy shots and other hints at the W212’s design and it does not fall short of these renderings.
Scooped on the cover of last week’s edition of German magazine AutoBild, the design seems to take after BMWs or rather Chris Bangle’s fascination with sharp flowing lines and sudden revelations. The front end is an interesting amalgamation of the C and S-Class with the now familiar upright grille but the ‘E’ will have two-piece headlamps on either side, just like its predecessors, well two of them anyway. Other highlights include a sculpted front bumper and LED indicators, a C-class like hip line, and rear taillights that wrap half-way around the fenders.
Autobild reports that the new E-class will be unveiled in March, so expect to get all the details from Geneva next year. Sales will likely begin in Europe mid 09 with the U.S shortly thereafter and then the rest of the world. Malaysia? Your guess is as good as mine.
