Our roads are well known for the potholes as they are the tollbooths. They regularly mess up your alignment setting and threaten to rob unsuspecting motorcyclists of their lives and yet we are required to pay unreasonable road tax. Our complains often fall on deaf ears and even when we do get heard and the potholes are patched, they stay patched for as long as it takes you to read this
Sure that is an exaggeration but our local authorities should accept the fact that they are doing a miserable job in keeping our roads drive or ride worthy while some of the potholes don’t even have warning signs. More often than not, some good hearted Samaritan will put up some pieces of sticks, bricks, and coconut tree leaves to help warn motorists. Our local municipals should make an example out of the Michigan Transportation Team that staged a month-long competition to get pictures and stories of the best potholes in Michigan.
The nearly 70 contestants captured some real craters; four first prize winners received US$318 “service center scholarships” for their troubles. The MTT also named four honorable mention photos due to the abundance of quality entries, the photos are pictured above.
Such things are no-brainers even for us, what more should we expect from people in positions of power? Potholes are unfair to people who pay road tax just in the same way it is unfair to use taxpayers money to build more tollbooths so more taxes can be levied on honest hardworking people. A counter pothole team or an effective public complains bureau are also no brainers but when can we actually count on the effectiveness?
