New Audi RS6 Sedan: M5 Beating 580hp Super Saloon

RS6080029With the introduction of the new A6 out of the way, Audi now proudly presents its almighty RS6 Sedan. Similar to the RS6 Avant that was unveiled at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, the RS6 Sedan will be packing a twin-turbocharged 5-liter V10 engine that is comfortably capable of 580hp between 6,250 and 6,700rpm with peak torque of 480lb-ft available from 1,500 to 6,250rpm.

Power is channeled to Audi’s rear biased quattro all-wheel-drive system through the use of a six-speed tiptronic automatic transmission that like every other system, allows the driver to change gears manually either by using the shift lever or the paddles on the steering wheel. Audi’s monster saloon completes the century sprint in 4.5 seconds for the Sedan and 4.6 seconds for the Avant and goes on to a electronically limited top speed of 250km/h which, in a very sporting manner, Audi is willing to raise to 280km/h though its offered as an option.

As with the RS6 Avant, the Sedan also benefits from a reworked suspension and standard Dynamic Ride Control (DRC) that reduces pitch and roll using mechanical systems. The DRC, when combined with the sports suspension plus, offers a choice of three selectable damper settings – sport, dynamic and comfort, either one can be activated through the MMI. How do you slow down 580 horses on full gallop? It’s not so much as pulling the reins as stomping on the center pedal to unleash 390 millimeters of braking surface up front and 365 millimeters at the rear.

Looks wise, the RS6 Sedan is everything you would want a super sedan to be, inconspicuously deadly. The only give aways to the capability of the RS6 would be the bulging wheel arches that house 19-inch alloy wheels as standard (Audi offers 20-inch as an option) wrapped with 255/40 tyres. The RS6 also gets a more heavily profiled bumper with a revised grill, deep side skirts, a rear diffuser that houses two large oval exhaust pipes and ultimately a spoiler that is integrated into the trunk lid.

Inside, its all very subtle and tasteful like all sporting Audi’s but the one thing that really grabs your attention is the driver and front passenger bucket seats seen in the pictures below. Even if you didn’t tick on the option box, the standard sculptured sports seats wrapped in a combination of exotic silk and leather is great too but lacks the visual appeal of the bucket seats.

damn... so nice..

notice the dsg shift? this is something new on audi's 'rs' models. they were always proud of 'rs' models being a driver's car.. guess the demand for the more friendly dsg are too great to ignore..

forget the m5... this is the real 'super-saloon' to get!!
