BMW CS To Make It Into Production – Again

First yes it will be built, then no it won’t be and now it’s yes again. The BMW CS will be produced after all as fresh new spy pictures have surfaced and all point to the resurrection of a CS based sports saloon. The CS shook up the automotive world with its bold design and gaping nostrils when it was first revealed about a year ago.

The CS was conceived, according to Director of Design, Chris Bangle, holistically as a four-door saloon. It is thus larger in dimension than a 7 Series, sits four passengers, boasts aggressive front end styling, a sloping rear and an engine bay reserved for something very powerful. So the Porsche Panamera would be the most natural rival, alongside Audi’s upcoming A7 and Aston Martin Rapide. Some have even speculated that it would bring back the 8 Series name tag.

As a hark back to the 1960s highly styled BMWs, the company named this concept ‘CS’, but it is more than that; it points to possibly the future design direction of BMW which takes ‘flame surfacing’ to the next level. BMW chose the 2008 Shanghai Auto Show to reveal the CS concept perhaps as a sign that such a car would be driven, growth wise, from the east / Asia where the appetite for high-end luxury cars is still strong.

Last I heard BMW now seriously looking at forced induction (turbo) instead of NA which they had held on to for so long

If you ask me i say the front looks suspicously like an Aston + Z4. While the rear is a modified version fo their X6. But the sillouette looks like a longer Aston. Do we need this car? Since they have the 5 series? Unless this one gets a massive powerplant, i don't see it competing with anyone but just a Merc CLS. If it does get a big engine, then it must be a competitor to Porsche & Lambo super saloons.

If I was actually planning to purchase a BMW, I would procrastinate for the mid life renew since they normally do it with each version for what? past 20 years now? Even the e46 had a mid life up-date.
