From NSTOnline: The woman literally led life in the fast and furious world of car-jackers, targeting the elite who owned luxury cars and despatching her underlings to steal the vehicles.
Wong Sau Lai, better known in underworld circles as ’Ah Moon’, masterminded the ’Gang Ah Tok’ to steal 32 BMW, Toyota Camry and Volkswagen cars in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor over the past year.
Like the fast cars which she targeted, the 20-year-old’s life of crime was cut down just as swiftly, in a shootout with the police at a condominium in Sungai Long early today.
Also killed in the 3am police operation was her accomplice, Goh Kian Chai alias Ah Tok, 40, after whom the gang was named.
During the shootout, Chief Inspector Ng Wai Leong of the Serious Crimes branch of the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters was injured in the legs when a bullet hit the left calf and penetrated the right.
He was sent to the Kajang Hospital before being transferred to the University Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre.
Federal CID director Datuk Mohd Bakri Zinin said that when the police surrounded arrived at the condominium block about 3am, three shots rang out from the window of the suspects’ unit on the first floor.
He said when the police ordered Ah Moon and Goh to open the door, they refused, forcing the raiding party to break down the door.
Bakri said when the police moved into the unit, the duo who were holed up in a room became aggressive and began firing in the direction of the police.
The police returned fire and shot them dead, he told reporters in a press conference at the Kajang police headquarters.
“From the deceased, we seized two firearms, namely .38 revolver and a Ruger P89.
“We found their identity cards which indicated that Ah Moon was from Taman Salak Selatan, Sungai Besi while the man was from Jalan Klang Lama.
“We have been keeping surveillance on the gang’s activities for the past three months, resulting in the arrest of a man in his 20s, about two weeks ago.
“While the gang was formed about a year ago, it only became active over the past three months, and was involved in 24 cases of luxury car thefts in Kuala Lumpur and eight in Selangor,” said Bakri.
The stolen vehicles were worth several million ringgit.
The CID director said initial investigations revealed that the woman had targeted homes of the elite who owned luxury cars and lured potential victims to open their doors before her armed accomplices struck.
He said police seized a BMW found in the vicinity of the condominium, which was reported stolen from a businessman on Oct 10.
Inside the vehicle, there were more than 10 false registration number plates meant for various cars, axes, machetes and knives.
On Ah Moon, Bakri said a warrant of arrest had been issued for her arrest as she had failed to turn up in court for a case in which she had allegedly used a car to mow down a policeman on May 27.
A gun was also found in the car, leading to her arrest on that day.
He said Goh was involved in eight cases of robbery.
