Spied: New Porsche GT3 RS

Autocar UK reports that its spies have caught the new hardcore GT3 RS testing at the Nurburgring. The RS, which not due until at least early 2010, is the stripped out, angry, brutish version of the standard GT3 that is itself expected to go on sale sometime next year.

The trained eye will probably notice the modification to the front and rear bumper and enthusiasts will appreciate that this lightweight, track-focused Porsche is expected to be good for around 450bhp (40bhp more than the current car) so expect it to retain its widow maker title.

It is not yet clear if the RS will use the standard 911’s new direct injection engines because traditionally the RS has always been powered by the unit from the Porsche GT1 race car. But Autocar has revealed that the GT3 will get Porsche’s new seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission, officially known as Porsche Doppel Kupplung (PDK). It’s a paddle-shift-only unit and promises seamless, rapid cog-swapping (yes, even mighty Porsche couldn’t escape the technological trap).

Other new touches include LED brake lights and Audi R8-style LED driving lights, set within a redesigned front bumper.
