Skunk2 EP3 Civic RR – Built To Teach Japanese A Lesson

eptrackPreviously known as SkunkWorks, the American aftermarket parts manufacturer and tuner recently rebranded itself and is now known as Skunk2. They have been churning out performance parts for Honda’s since the mid 90’s. They are known to go racing which they use as a platform to develop and test new products and like very few other performance parts manufacturer, they have an advanced R & D facility only found in the dreams of most engineers.

This is their baby. Their EP3 Honda Civic RR, is loaded with every possible item from the Skunk2 catalogue and was specially built to show that Japanese tuners could be beaten at their own game. The project exclusively uses U.S. domestic market parts. The motor, built with Wiseco pistons, forged Cunningham rods and various Skunk2 components, churns out 254 hp and 190 ft-lbs of torque at the wheels. For the most part, the mods are limited to the performance and interior upgrades, though a few Civic Type R body trim pieces (technically UKDM) and lightweight Volk wheels (USDM) also find their way into the car.

It’s a left hand drive though sadly, but it’ll make the perfect track car and a very strong contender in next year’s ATCC or MME though nobody knows if it’s reliable to run endurance. If you’ve caught yourself thinking of the possibility, now will be a good time to know that its priced at USD17,000. That’s less than RM60,000 for a fully done up Skunk2 car. With MAM’s support for duty-free race-cars, this could be a viable option to consider.

Worth considering...but the transportation costs will be more expensive than the cost of the car... Tax-free it maybe...but they will be port taxes at both end, export taxes by US etc,etc....

If you do import the car, how much does it come up to? 120K? Even so, still cheaper than the new type R locally available here. But the type R can be driven on the roads and track out of the box.

So if you buy this track car, strip all the mods on a local street car, would it be cheaper or wiser?
