Rendering: 2009 Volkswagen Polo

June 13, 2008

Yet again it happens, just less than a year ago did we officially get the VW Polo on our shores and there’s already a new one waiting to be released. I don’t know what it’s about with us and not getting the latest cars on time but it’s bound to happen again.

The new Polo will use the same PQ25 platform from the Skoda Fabia, Seat Ibiza as will the upcoming Audi A1. Due next year, it is widely believed that VW will reveal the 2009 Polo at the next Geneva Motor Show.

The design of the new Polo seems to borrow a few visual cues from the Scirocco, the up!, and the future Lupo. As with the engine, the Polo will likely be powered by the same engine that is utilized in the rest of the VW range such as the 1.4 TFSI that may power the next Polo GTI, and even the new 1.6 liter TDI unit. Both the 1.6 and 1.4 models will like be mated with the new seven speed DSG gearbox.
