Preview: 2009 Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet Mk VI

August 7, 2008

vw-golf6-cabrio-closedFor the first time since Volkswagen introduced the Golf Cabriolet will they be building the car totally
in house at its plant in Wolfsburg Germany. All previous Golf Cabriolets have been built by Karmann at the
independent vehicle manufacturers facility also in Germany.

The Golf Cab, previewed here in these renderings will use a conventional soft top but it has been said that
noise and weather insulation is comparabale to that of the standard car. One thing that is
definately not comparable is the handling, cabriolets are known to be more heavier than their base cars
because of the extra weight required to keep the chasis rigid.

The engines line up is expected to be the same as the hatch but with four new petrol units ranging from
80hp to 160hp as well as two diesel models that develop 110hp and 140hp respectively. The best part of it
all is that the Cabriolet could just be honoured the 240hp GTI badge.

Volkswagen is not just stopping at cabrioletising the Golf, in fact more Convertible models are in line
in the form of the Polo, Scirocco maybe the up! minicar as well as the new VW Roadster. More news one this soon.
