Nurburgring Record Breaking Nissan GTR Was Tuned?

It sounded pretty believable at that time, for a car as capable as the GTR to pull off a record breaking 7 minute 29 seconds lap at the Nurburgring. But according to British automotive site Pistonheads (owned by the publisher of Autocar magazine) the record breaking GTR was not a current, base specification production car as Nissan supports. Instead it is said to be a modified GTR featuring a number of tweaks intended for its European launch which basically means that the GTR we will be getting here on our shores might just be the slower one of the bunch.
Truth be told, it doesn’t matter if the GTR is a few seconds off its mark at the Nurburgring, it is definitely one of the fastest and most developed supercars to grace our roads today. And even if we do get the slowest of the bunch, it is still capable of seeing off a Porsche Turbo, and everything else that comes with it, so don’t be disappointed, just hope that you don’t run into a UK spec GTR.
