New Year’s Eve in Singapore? Head on to: Carreista Jamboree 2008
November 29, 2008

Probably the only biggest automotive lifestyle event of year to attend. The Singapore Carreista Jamboree 2008. It may carry a weird title but the show organizers promises maximum enjoyment over the course of 5 days. Commencing on the 27th of December 2008 within Changi’s Exhibition Centre, this is going to be really huge.
Stretching over 40,000 square metres indoor and 60,000 square metres outdoor, they plan to pack an insane 402metre drag race, drift performance which will be lead by Nobuteru Taniguchi himself, a go kart competition, exhibitions and even a New Year’s Eve celebration!
Here’s what the Organizers have to say:
Throughout the last few months, we have heard so much about Singapore creating history for hosting the first ever Formula One (F1) night race. Well, after so much anticipation and excitement, it’s finally here. But have you thought about what’s to happen after the entire F1 circus packs up and heads to Japan next?
Capitalising on the increased interest in motorsport, MPT Motor Trading continues to bring motorsport fun and activities to the locals. Carrerista Jamboree 2008 will be the biggest motorsport event of this year, as it wraps up 2008 with a grand countdown party complete with fireworks display to usher in 2009. Held over the last five days of the year – December 27th to 31st 2008 – this mega affair is happening at Changi Exhibition Centre.
Carrerista Jamboree caters widely to all; so long there is an interest in motorsport. There is definitely something for everyone and anyone can be part of Asia’s first and largest motorsport gathering. Fun Prix Jamboree, a significant part of the event, is designed and organized specially for kids only.
Covering more than 40,000 sq.m indoors and 60,000 sq.m outdoors, a huge exhibition of both local and foreign products is included, with exhibitors of globally-recognized brands and top racing teams from the region. Some of the exclusive highlights to expect are “Catch the Show Car”, the original YOKOMO IS220-R Altezza directly from HKS Japan, the RS-R Supra and the J’S Racing S2000 which will all be on display with other car exhibits within the indoor exhibition centre.

A specific programme has been planned for the hardcore racing enthusiasts. Through this programme, local and foreign drivers in Asia have the opportunity to compete in a quarter-mile sprint, karting and drifting. Professional Star Driver Mr Taniguchi, will be making his way down to make an exclusive appearance. Expect live drifting demonstrations in the hot HKS Altezza IS-220Z by Taniguchi-san throughout the five days. He will also be one of the honourable judges for the Drifting Challenge.
The non-competitive shouldn’t feel left out either, as activities such as karting are available too. In a bid to extend the Singapore Sports Council’s (SSC) aim to promote Formula One through karting, an Endurance Kart will be at the event.
As mentioned, Fun Prix Jamboree is targeted at the little ones and everything will be scaled down proportionately. The Formula Fun Prix Challenge is a scaled-down version of Formula 1, where kids race each other with a single-seater battery-operated formula race car on a miniature circuit built within the exhibition hall. Aside from the fun factor, there is also the educational element to it. Fun Prix Jamboree serves as a motorsport learning avenue for the kids as they gain early exposure. Guiding them through accurately in a controlled environment are MPT Motor Trading Certified Drivers and Singapore Motor Sports Association (SMSA) Officials and Members, who are all trained professionals.
Safety aspects will be emphasized at all times and the main objective is to introduce the development of motorsport racing to the younger generation. You never know, hidden talent may reveal, potential promises may be spotted and prodigies may be discovered.
The good thing about Carrerista Jamboree is that it involves the entire family. Parents can accompany their children as they pick up the basics of driving. Mothers can also participate in the Fun Prix Mama Search, who says females can’t have their stage glamour and fame at a more mature age?
Another exciting competition is the Fun Prix Sound Challenge. All you have to do is show up and use your vocals to best imitate the sounds of a racing car. Interesting?
To add that tinge of sensuality to the event, local and foreign race queens will be present alongside our very own Fun Prix Race Princesses and Princes. The qualifying rounds for the Race Princess and Prince Search will be held from 27th to 29th of December, where successful candidates advance to the Semi-finals on 30 Dec 2008 and the top fifteen finalists will compete on the last day, 31st December, for the coveted titles of Fun Prix Race Princess and Prince.
This mega event is not without its community spirit and humanitarian purpose; the mini karts used in Fun Prix Jamboree will be auctioned off on the last day and proceeds will be donated to charity as part of the President’s Challenge.
With the establishment of racing schools in the pipeline and discussion talks to further build up the motorsport interest in Singapore, MPT Motor Trading will not be left behind. Subsequently, even after Carrerista Jamboree is over, progressive courses, clinics and events will be organized for the public.
For now, Carrerista Jamboree is set to be an annual event and it promises tons of fun and entertainment for everyone, from purists to non-drivers and even the little ones. Future plans include moving the mega event to the upcoming Changi race circuit, but till then just remember to jot down these important dates into your calendar.
