Leaked: 2009 Volkswagen Golf MkVI

Volkswagen was only planning to unveil its sixth generation Golf on Wednesday, August the 6th and to later display it at October’s Paris Motor Show but the power of the Internet strikes again. Not much is known about the new Golf except for the visual differences, its bigger in size than the current model and shares some design cues with the Scirocco.

A wide engine line up is also on offer but we’re not sure which of them will make it here but we can definately expect the GTI. The European line up will include a new 1.6liter TSI engine developing 200hp, a 240hp, turbocharged 2liter engine for the GTI as well as a 1liter and 1.2liter that’s good for 75hp thanks to forced induction technology.

The interior also seems to share some characteristics with the Scirocco like the squared air-con outlets and center console, the steering wheel is new though. VW had previously announced that the new Golf will be 30% more fuel efficient. VWs BlueMotion models will utilize slow-shift gear boxes that help reduce fuel consumption as well as low resistance tyres that help reduce drag resistance that ultimately saves fuel.

The final addition to the line up could be the recent diesel-hybrid concept, but that is still a few years away. We’ll keep you posted as more details become available.
