Gordon Murray: Extreme Designer Working On Extreme Sports Car

August 12, 2008

gordon_murray_leftGordon Murray is one of the most brilliant minds ever to grace the automotive world. He is responsible for the legendary 90’s supercar, the Mclaren F1 and more recently, the Caparo T1. He is now working on a modern sports car that even the super green Swiss would be proud of. Internally know as the T25, Murray is in the midst of engineering a new level of extreme performance with a focus on lightweight and low emissions city driving.

Apparently the T25 will be offered in two very different variants, one is a safety and comfort oriented, get from point A to point B vehicle while another is a hard hitting sportier model based on the same design principles. Speaking with Autocar, Murray stated that the upcoming sports car will be small, light and economical as well as being environmentally friendly in term of carbon dioxide emissions.

Word on the automotive grapevine suggests that the T25 will be powered by a small displacement engine with the possible use of a turbo or supercharger to increase output. Another consideration is the use of a motorbike engine, which could be very much possible if the car, remains light enough. Murray is known for his passion of a lightweight car with high output, he even designed a car powered by a motorbike engine more than a decade ago but that never saw production.

There is no word on the material composition of the car or the engine placement but Murray claims his design team is already considering production and distribution and is currently in talks with the company’s two main investors – carbon-fiber specialists Caparo, and investment group Mohr Davidow. Will we ever see a lightweight, environmentally friendly sports car? Well, in these times of over priced fuel and a deteriorating environment, its certainly refreshing to think so, it’s just a matter of time.

It would be very ideal to have a green sports car. Green n mean, reminds me of the koenisegg which runs on methanol..

Got something to say?
