BMW Developing M Versions Of The X5 and X6 – Launch In 2010

July 31, 2008

bmw_x6_x5_news_imageWe have heard this before but BMW has continuously denied that a M version of the X5. We have previously posted spy shots off a beefed up X5 prototype lapping the ‘Ring but BMW has dismissed it as nothing more than an X5 with the 400hp 4.8 twin-turbo V8 from the X6 xDrive50i. However, things appear to be different now. BMW M GmbH boss Ludwig Willisch recently had a sit down with German magazine Auto Motor und Sport and he revealed BMW is working on ‘M’ versions of both the X5 and the X6.

He also confirmed that ‘M’ prototypes of both the X5 and X6 are both in existence and are undergoing testing at the Nurburgring. He said that BMW M GmbH plans to complete both models by the end of 2009 and will have them available for sale shortly after.

When asked if BMW M GmbH will ever consider diesel, Willisch said ”in medium term, there is no such intention.”

There you have it, straight from the horses mouth, we will soon have M versions of the X5 and X6 ripping open tarmac just as M cars are known to do so well.

Anyone could find those wheels on the E46 having the comp system. Regarding the tail enhancements, this is the affordable tactic of providing a little refresh in line with its present design to attractl individuals into investing in a younger model year. They do it regularly with the front skirt and taillights. The E46 did not experience it’s taillight upgrade before the 2004 versions I believe.
